Under the guidance of the President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit (NSVU), Mrs. Anusha Banagoda, and in commemoration of International Women’s Day 2026, the NSVU made arrangements to conduct a series of “Suwanari” Health First Medical programmes encompassing all Naval Commands.
The inaugural programme was conducted on 01 Mar 26 at SLNS Walagamba, under the Eastern Naval Command. The programme witnessed the participation of a significant number of lady officers and women sailors serving in the Sri Lanka Navy, as well as spouses of naval personnel. The programme was conducted with the assistance of medical officers attached to the Naval Hospital (Eastern Command), together with external medical practitioners.
During the programme, participants were provided with complimentary medical services, including eye examinations, blood investigations, dental consultations, laboratory services and other essential healthcare services.
The President of the NSVU also engaged in cordial interactions with the participants and expressed appreciation to the medical officers and staff whose dedicated efforts contributed to the successful conduct of the programme. The event was also attended by the Commander Eastern Naval Area, senior officers, the Commanding Officer SLNS Walagamba, the Coordinating Officer and staff of the NSVU as well as sailors.
