NSVU strengthens welfare initiatives with new momentum to family support programmes

The Navy Seva Vanitha Unit (NSVU), spearheaded by its President, Mrs. Anusha Banagoda, launched a noteworthy welfare initiative focused on personnel support and children’s education. The programme encompasses a book distribution drive and disaster relief for affected naval personnel.

The first phase of the initiative commenced at SLNS Nipuna on 27 Dec 25, under the patronage of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda. This event officially launched the distribution of books for the children of 2,573 naval personnel serving under the Southern Naval Command. The programme is scheduled to be extended across all Naval Commands in a deliberate effort to support the academic development of children from naval families.

In a parallel benevolent effort, the NSVU has arranged relief measures for naval personnel impacted by recent adverse weather conditions. Thus, the NSVU has prepared relief packages, comprising dry rations, sanitary items, and essential commodities, for 1,941 identified individuals. The inaugural distribution provided immediate support to 44 severely affected personnel within the Southern Naval Command.

The Commander Southern Naval Area, the Deputy Area Commander, the Commandant SLNS Nipuna, Heads of Departments, Commanding Officers, officers, members of the NSVU Executive Committee, the staff of the NSVU and a group of sailors were present on this occasion.
