In celebration of International Women's Day, a special Women's Day programme was held on 08 Mar 25 at the Wave N' Lake Navy Hall in Welisara, under the patronage of the Chairperson of Ministry of Defence Seva Vanitha Unit, Dr. Ruvini Rasika Perera. The programme, organized at the directives of the President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Anusha Banagoda, was dedicated to lady officers, women sailors, and spouses of naval personnel. The colourful event was also dignified by the presence of the Commander of the Navy.
The theme for International Women’s Day 2025 is "For All Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment". Aligning with this, the government has declared the week from 02 to 08 Mar 25, as ‘National Women’s Week’ under the theme “Strong she will be a pathway to build a sustainable future.”
The vibrant programme organized by the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, included a music-backed discussion led by the spouses of three Rear Admirals, captivating singing performances by the unit's members, and vibrant acts by the Navy Cultural Troupe. The event was further enriched by an insightful session on the significance of Ayurveda for health and an awareness lecture on women's rights and legal remedies by Commander Chathurika Jayamini.
The executive and committee members of Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, senior and junior lady officers as well as women sailors from the Navy Headquarters and Naval Commands, spouses of naval personnel and the staff of Navy Seva Vanitha Unit were present on this occasion.
