Navy Seva Vanitha Unit launches special programme to celebrate International Women's Day

The Navy Seva Vanitha Unit (NSVU) under the auspices of the President of NSVU, Mrs. Mala Lamahewa, organized a special programme on 11th March 2023 for the lady officers, women sailors and spouses of naval personnel. The event was organised to be in parallel with the International Women's Day which fell on 08th March. The event was held at the Cultural Theatre, SLNS Gemunu and it was graced by Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera.

During this programme, a series of special lectures were conducted on health, financial, legal and beauty related matters that are particularly important to women. The lectures were conducted by Consultant Psychiatrist, Surgeon Captain Thushani Henegama, Officer in charge of Community Police Division and Chief Inspector of Police Manoj Samarasekera, Senior Diamond Director Oriflame Ms Thamali Wasala. Moreover, the attendees had the opportunity to get the service of dental clinic, beauty care and buy cosmetic products at the women's day programme. Further, the Navy pay and pension division, medical branch and legal services branch also provided opportunities for female naval personnel to broaden their knowledge on respective fields.

Meanwhile, ‘Nature Secret’, ‘Unilever’ and ‘Hayleys Aventura’ sponsored for special gifts to all female participants for attending this event.

NSVU Vice President Mrs Udeni Kularatne, Commander Western Naval Area Rear Admiral Suresh De Silva, Commanding Officer SLNS Gemenu Captain AMD Amarakoon, Executive Committee members and Committee members of NSVU, senior and junior lady officers from the Navy Headquarters and naval commands, coordinating officer of NSVU as well as the secretary and staff of NSVU were also present on this occasion.
