Following a concept of the President of Navy Seva Vanitha Unit (NSVU), Mrs Chandima Ulugetenne, a Sil programme was organized at the Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake Auditorium, SLNS Parakrama from 6.00 a.m. throughout the day on 14th June 2022. The event was held in parallel with the Poson Poya Day which marks the introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka. At the invitation of the President of NSVU, Commander of the Navy attended the Poya Day Sil programme.
The programme has been organized for naval personnel in the Western Naval Command and their family members, focusing on their spiritual wellness, allowing a break from their stereotypical lifestyle. At the invitation of the President of NSVU, both the Sil programme was attended by Commander of the Navy, flag-rank officers, executive committee members and committee members of NSVU, Commanding Officer of SLNS Parakrama, senior and junior officers, sailors from ships and establishments in the Western Naval Command as well as the staff of NSVU.
The programme commenced soon after the bringing of Sacred Relic Casket amidst Hevisi and offering of Buddha Puja. Meanwhile, the Dharma Deshana, Dharma Discussion and Meditation (Maithree Bawana), evening herbal Gilanpasa Buddha Puja and Pirith Deshana events in the Poya Day Sil programme were conducted by Ven. Hingure Panngasekara Thera, Ven. Neluwakande Ganananda Thera, Ven. Kelaniya Vipulagana Thera, Ven. Kumbukkadawara Sudheera Thera, Ven. Malimbada Pangasara Thera, Ven. Mirahawatte Pangasiri Thera, Ven. Kahagolle Somawansha Thera and Ven. Korathota Vessabu Thera.
