Navy Seva Vanitha Unit celebrates International Women's Day

On the sidelines of International Women's Day (08th March), Navy Seva Vanitha Unit (NSVU) organized a celebratory event to mark this special day on high note. The event which was held under the auspices of the Chairperson of Defence Ministry's Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Chithrani Gunaratne at the Admiral Somathilaka Dissanayake Auditorium on 08th March 2021 was dignified by the presence of NSVU President, Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne and Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne.

As the Guests of Honour Prof. Praneeth Abhayasundara, Department of Anthropology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, renowned trainer & lecturer in positive thinking and stress management Mrs. Ama Dissanayake, veteran chef, Deshabandu T. Pabilis Silva, presidential award winning craftswoman Mrs. GW Swarna Jayanthi, famous television presenter, Mrs. Rasadari Peiri and well-known beautician Mrs. Suneetha Kotelawala took part in this special event.

Going by a notion of the NSVU President, Navy Seva Vanitha Unit compiled ‘Sinduliya’ magazine and launched it on the International Women's Day. Meanwhile, the NSVU President presented the first copy of the magazine to the Chairperson of Defence Ministry's Seva Vanitha Unit and rest among other distinguished guests including Commander of the Navy, present at the event. Further, Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne also presented special mementoes to the Chief Guest for gracing the event and other resource persons for their invaluable contributions.

Also, on the occasion of International Women's Day, a live TV programme on Derana 24 on ‘Women's Contribution to the Prosperity of the Nation’ did also telecast. The programme was anchored by famous TV presenter Mrs. Wasantha Hettiarachchi onboard Sri Lanka Navy Ship Sayurala and the event had been organized by a concept of the President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit. Prof. Agalakada Siri Sumana Thero, Department of Sinhala, University of Colombo, Prof. Praneeth Abhayasundera, Department of Anthropology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Prof. Attanayake M. Herath, Mrs. Sandhya Amarasinghe, Psychological Counselor, Visiting Lecturer, University of Ruhuna, Mrs. Niroshi Nandasiri, Founder & Chairperson of the International Women's Foundation and Psychologist, Surgeon Captain Thushani Apsara Henegama were among the elite panel of this discussion. The President of Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, senior members of NSVU, Commander of the Navy and a group of officers were also present on this occasion.

Meanwhile, the International Women's Day programme organized by the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit was attended by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, NSVU President, Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne, Flag Rank Officers, officers, lady officers, members of NSVU, sailors, woman sailors, wives of naval personnel, civil staff employees and staff of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit.
