This year’s International Women's Day which is falling on 08th March is centered on the theme ‘Choose to Challenge’. On the sidelines of this international event, Navy Seva Vanitha Unit (NSVU) has organized a celebratory event and launching of the magazine ‘Sinduliya’, under the auspices of Chairperson of Defence Ministry's Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Chithrani Gunaratne at the Admiral Somathilaka Dissanayake Auditorium on 08th March 2021.
The NSVU’s International Women's Day celebrations, a brainchild of NSVU President, Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne, would feature a wide range of events aiming to improve the knowledge and skills of women, throughout the day. Among these events a culinary workshop hosted by veteran chef, Deshabandu T. Pabilis Silva, a beauty culture and a hand craft programme conducted by several other resource persons would take the centre stage. Apart from that, the ‘Sinduliya’ magazine edited by Prof. Praneeth Abyesundara will be launched by NSVU to coincide with the International Women's Day.
International Women's Day recognizes the significant contribution that women make to the family, society, country and the world being a vital cog for the progression of humankind. In the same vein, the Women's Day celebrations organized by NSVU acclaim the silent service of lady officers and women sailors in active service as well as the wives of naval personnel being a source of strength and encouragement to the naval family.
