The magazine comprising the creations of the members of Officers’ Children’s Club ceremonially launched at the Lighthouse Galley, Colombo today (04, August). The main impetus for this cause was provided by the President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit (NSVU), Mrs. Yamuna Wijegunaratne.
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne graced this occasion as the Chief Guest. The proceedings of the launching ceremony commenced following the lighting of traditional oil lamp. Thereupon, the first copy of the magazine was presented to the Commander of the Navy by the President of the Officers’ Children’s Club, Sathyajith Wijegunaratne.
The magazine was launched with the expectation of sharing the creative thinking and improved aesthetic skills of the club members among others. The Officers’ Children’s Club was a brain child of the President of the NSVU, inaugurated for creating a common platform for the children of naval officers.
Meanwhile, the Commander of the Navy, President of the NSVU, senior members of the NSVU and officers had made congratulatory remarks for the launching of the magazine. The event was attended by senior members of the NSVU, officers and a host of invitees.
Subsequently, the members of the Officers’ Children’s Club took part in a friendly basketball encounter at the basketball court of SLNS Rangalla and the winning team received prizes form the President, Mrs. Wijegunaratne.
