Senior officers of the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLA Navy) ships, “Chang Chun”, “Jing Zhou” and “Chao Hu”, which arrived in Sri Lanka on goodwill as well as a relief mission for the flood victims yesterday (31), made a visit at the Seva Vanitha preschool at the naval base SLNS Gemunu, Welisara today (1).
As per the directives and guidance of the President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit (NSVU), Mrs. Yamuna Wijegunaratne, a colourful ceremony has been organized to welcome the Chinese naval personnel, at the preschool premises. The Deputy Commander, Eastern Theater Command of the PLA Navy, Rear Admiral Shen Hao graced this occasion as the Chief Guest.
Upon their arrival, the Chinese naval personnel were warmly received by the Presedent of the NSVU. To signify the importance of the occasion, Rear Admiral Shen Hao planted a tree sapling as well. The proceedings of the ceremony got off the ground having recited the National Anthems of both countries and lit the traditional oil lamp.
The event was made more colourful with several entertaining items performed by both preschool children and Chinese naval personnel. Subsequently, the Chinese naval officers distributed prizes among the preschool children. Meanwhile, the NSVU President also presented mementoes and prizes to the visiting Chinese naval personnel.
Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Niraja Attygalle, senior officers, senior members of the NSVU, President of the Officers’ Children’s Club, Sathyajith Wijegunaratne, officers attached to the NSVU and preschool children were present at the ceremony.
