NSVU organises a series of programmes to mark International Children's and Elders’ Day

Under the guidance of the President of Navy Seva Vanitha Unit (NSVU), Mrs. Yamuna Wijegunaratne, the members of NSVU organised a series of programmes to mark International Children's and Elders’ day both fell on 1st of October.

Accordingly they carried out a beach cleaning programme at Galle Face and a sapling was also planted by the members of Naval Officers’ Children’s Club. At the directives of the President, a "Seela Viyapara" programme was also held for the parents of the sailors residing at "Kajukele" married quarters located at SLNS Gemunu in the Welisara Naval complex. The series of religious activities also comprised "Dharma Deshana" and discussions on "Dhamma". A large number of parents of the naval personnel attended this event. The President of NSVU, members of NSVU, President of Naval Officers’ Children’s Club, Sathyajith Wijegunaratne and the members of the club offered alms for the parents who observed Sill on the day. Similar "Sill Observation" programmes were also organised at SLNS Tissa and SLNS Nipuna with the participation of a large number of parents of the naval personnel in respective commands.

Subsequently the president declared open the "Reading Room" which was established adjacent to the sailors' married quarters in Welisara, following her directives. Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Jayantha De Silva, senior officers, members of NSVU, senior and junior sailors were also present on the occasion. Marking the end of the proceedings of the day, the President of NSVU Mrs. Yamuna Wijegunaratne and NSVU members attended Mass at St. Anthony's Church in Kochchikade and received blessings. The President and the members of Naval Officers’ Children’s Club also participated for this event.
